Seton Brain and Spine Neurosurgeon Awarded Top National Neurosurgery Award
Physicians at the Seton Brain and Spine Institute (SBSI) are making a significant impact at the national level. In particular, their service to national organizations is spreading the word about Seton and its advancements in neurosurgery.
Last month, the SBSI Chief of Adult Neurosciences and Neurotrauma Dr. Alex Valadka (pictured right) was recognized by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) with the Distinguished Service Award.
At the recent 63rd Annual Meeting of the CNS in San Francisco, Dr. Valadka joined a prominent group of award recipients honored for their contributions to enhance health and improve lives worldwide.
Dr. Valadka was recognized for his advocacy-related efforts to improve the emergency care system in the United States. He continues to work with government agencies including the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institutes of Health and the Institute of Medicine.
"Research, advocacy and service to national organizations like the CNS is a major focus for us at the Seton Brain and Spine Institute," Dr. Valadka said. "It's an honor to be recognized for advancements in these areas."
Since joining Seton in 2009 from the Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Valadka has improved care of traumatic brain injury patients and is currently working on new protocols to treat these patients in the ICU. His experience and leadership is also bringing other world class physicians to Seton.
Dr. Valadka has also served as chair of the American Association of Neurological Neurosurgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Section on Neurotrauma and Critical Care, chair of the Neurosurgical Specialty Group of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, chair of the Washington Committee for Neurosurgery and representative of the CNS to the Advisory Council for Neurological Surgery of the American College of Surgeons.
